the wooden brass-mounted case (labelled CHINA to the reverse) with carrying handle and sliding front with Chinese characters, opening to reveal five drawers, with bone and bamboo tiles:

-8 Decorative Bonus Tiles
4 extra spare tiles, a collection of bone scoring sticks, horn Ming Pot with four wind discs in bone, 4 miniature bone dice in a rectangular wooden box with a sliding lid, plus an (associated) instruction pamphlet by John Jaques & Son Ltd (owner’s signature).

Condition
Good. Nice, decent set with lovely tiles. Hand-written numbered annotations (in ink) to drawer fronts. Please see photographs. Brass mounts slightly lifting on corners. Crack to underside of one wooden drawer.

Good, above average Mahjong set- typical of the Shanghai workshops. Good size. Nice, chunky bamboo and bone tiles of decent quality and shiny patination. A few minor hairline cracks and scuffs to box.
